Job description

Finance Director, Nurseries, Hertfordshire, Hybrid, 80k:85k pro rata

This is a part-time role, 3 days per week (Friday is a must).

We are seeking a Finance Director for a childcare organization to lead a small team, focusing on establishing streamlined systems and processes within the finance department. This pivotal role ensures fiscal integrity, strategic decision-making, and efficient resource allocation to support the nurturing and development of children.

The primary responsibility of this role is to oversee various financial aspects of the business and drive the company's financial strategy and acquisition portfolio, liaising with the board and wider company.

Responsibilities

1. Analyse businesses and opportunities to assist the company in executing successful acquisitions.
2. Create and manage financial and valuation models to inform investment decisions.
3. Conduct pre-diligence evaluations, including preliminary financial analysis and evaluating strategic and cultural fit.
4. Develop financial models for acquisition targets to inform valuation ranges and craft proposed deal terms (including the development of term sheets/LOIs) in conjunction with the property consultant.
5. Partner with the Co-Managing Directors to measure performance of acquired companies (e.g., actual results versus business case, pro-forma income stream, and other assumptions).
6. Lead the vision and strategy in growing and transforming the company, working alongside the Co-Managing Directors to understand the journey from acquisition to established nursery setting.
7. Execute market research to understand the competitive landscape, identify market trends and opportunities, and develop strategies to capture market share within the Early Years sector, considering industry, size, and growth stage.
8. Work closely with the Head of Finance to provide strategic leadership and management of the company's finances, advising the Co-Managing Directors and board on all financial matters.
9. Manage capital for growth investments and ensure business cases are conducted for any investment plans. Create dashboards for reporting on new initiatives and site developments.
10. Support the Co-Managing Directors and Leadership Team in commercial decision-making, regulatory matters, and ensuring efficient processes to meet strategic goals.
11. Review and implement robust financial planning, budgeting, forecasting, and reporting processes aligned with company goals.
12. Understand payroll processes in conjunction with the Head of Finance.
13. Oversee the annual external audit.
14. Create, review, and update financial policies.

Candidate Profile

1. Fully Qualified Accountant (CIMA/ACCA/ACA).
2. Background in private equity or venture capital.
3. Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
4. Experience working in the Child Day Care sector (or similar).
5. Commercial approach to financial management.
6. Experience in budgetary control.
