Marks Sattin is seeking an experienced Finance Director to lead the finance function in a growing manufacturing business in the Cambridge area. The role focuses on statutory reporting, audit management, and ensuring a robust control environment while providing strategic financial leadership to support the next growth phase.

The successful candidate will drive monthly management accounts, board reporting, planning, and partner with operations to improve financial visibility and cost control.

Qualifications

• Qualified accountant with ACA/ACCA or equivalent.
• Strong experience in manufacturing/industrial or product-based businesses.
• Expertise in statutory reporting, external audit management, and technical accounting.
• Strong financial controls, governance and compliance knowledge.
• Proven leadership and ability to influence across finance and operations.

Responsibilities

• Lead statutory reporting and ensure compliance with accounting standards and regulations.
• Own the year-end process and manage external auditors for a smooth audit.
• Provide technical accounting guidance on complex matters and new standards.
• Oversee monthly management accounts, board reporting and financial analysis.
• Strengthen controls, governance and risk management across the organisation.
• Lead cashflow management, budgeting, forecasting and planning processes.
• Partner with operations to improve financial visibility, cost control and efficiency.
• Support growth initiatives, capex decisions and process improvements in manufacturing.
• Develop and mentor the finance team to build a high-performing function.

Key Responsibilities

• Lead all statutory reporting activities, ensuring compliance with relevant accounting standards and regulatory requirements
• Own the year-end process and manage relationships with external auditors, ensuring a smooth and timely audit
• Act as the technical accounting lead, providing guidance on complex accounting matters and new accounting standards
• Oversee the preparation of monthly management accounts, board reporting, and financial performance analysis
• Strengthen financial controls, governance, and risk management frameworks across the organisation
• Lead cashflow management, budgeting, forecasting, and financial planning processes
• Partner with operational and manufacturing teams to improve financial visibility, cost control, and efficiency

• Develop and mentor the finance team, fostering a high-performing finance function

About You

• Qualified accountant (ACA, ACCA or equivalent)
• Significant experience within manufacturing, industrial, engineering, or product-based businesses
• Strong background in statutory reporting, external audit management, and technical accounting
• Excellent understanding of financial controls, compliance, and governance requirements
• Proven leadership experience with the ability to build credibility across finance and operations
• Strong stakeholder management and communication skills
• Commercially aware, with the ability to balance technical excellence and business support
• Hands-on, pragmatic, and capable of operating effectively in a fast-paced environment
