Who You Are / Your Next Challenge

We are looking for Finance Data Specialists to join our Finance team on a full-time basis in our London office. We have one permanent position and one 12-month fixed-term contract. These positions report directly to the Finance Transformation consultant.

This role is to add value to the bottom line by using data effectively across Finance & Treasury. Work on specific Finance Transformation and multiple other strategic projects to accelerate the Finance month end using data analytics, modelling and intelligence to promote efficiency. Support the Finance & Treasury systems suite and their users including Purchase Ledger system, Expense system, General ledger, trading platforms and supporting SQL databases.

What we’re looking for:

1. Responsible for designing, developing, and maintaining SQL databases, writing efficient SQL queries, and optimising database performance.
2. Collaborate with cross-functional teams to understand data requirements and ensure accurate and timely delivery of solutions.
3. Work closely with stakeholders to gather requirements and translate them into technical specifications.
4. Design and develop data pipelines and queries, for efficient data extraction and transformation.
5. Write efficient SQL queries to extract and manipulate data.
6. Write and maintain production-level code to support lead management and Finance systems, ensuring scalability, performance, and reliability.
7. Perform database tuning and optimization.
8. Collaborate with software developers to integrate SQL databases into applications.
9. Development and maintenance of complex datasets needed for reports, dashboards, and visualisations.
10. Troubleshoot database-related issues.
11. Monitor and optimize database performance, identifying and resolving bottlenecks and inefficiencies.
12. Conduct regular reviews of SQL code and queries for performance improvements.
13. Ensure data security and integrity.
14. Stay updated with the latest database technologies and best practices.
15. Responsible to the end-to-end implementation of the Finance data warehouse project, from requirement gathering to deployment.
16. Collaborate with stakeholders to define project scope, objectives, and deliverables.
17. Design and develop robust data warehouse architectures that support scalability, performance, and data integrity.
18. Implement best practices for data modelling, ETL processes, and data integration.
19. Optimise data warehouse performance through efficient query design, indexing strategies, and data partitioning.
20. Provide technical guidance and mentorship to team members, ensuring adherence to industry standards and best practices.
21. Work closely with business analysts and data scientists to understand analytical requirements and translate them into technical solutions.
22. Collaborate with cross-functional teams to ensure seamless integration of data warehouse solutions with existing systems and applications.

Knowledge and Experience:

1. Extensive SQL and Access Database experience including configuration of databases and stored procedures.
2. Extensive experience of interfacing between the GL system and supporting trading/source systems.
3. Experience of working within financial services and regulated entities.
4. Experience of end-to-end process flows and data quality management of FX or volume payments processes or wholesale banking physical notes business preferred.
5. Advanced Excel skills.
6. Experience with large data reconciliations.
7. Previous experience of working in a fast-paced finance environment.

Skills and Competencies:

1. Advance IT skills most notably with programming languages such as VBA, VB Script, SQL and MS packages specifically Excel (including pivot tables) or equivalent is essential.
2. Proficient use of Visual Basic and SQL and using both to apply to reconciliations and processes.
3. Experience working with Python would be desirable but not essential.
4. Good interpersonal and communication skills both written and verbal.
5. Good analytical abilities, with an enquiring mind.
6. Robust, capable of clearly and strongly articulating position.
7. Excellent attention to detail with the ability to think analytically and work methodically in a high performing team.

Education:

1. Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, or a related field.
2. Proven experience as a SQL Analyst / Developer with a focus on BI and production-level code.
3. Strong proficiency in SQL, T-SQL, and experience working with relational databases (e.g., SQL Server, Oracle, MySQL).
4. Knowledge of software development best practices and ability to write production-level performant SQL code.
5. A recognised Finance qualification is desirable but not essential.
