Job description

Job Title: Finance Controller

Location: Dumfries and Galloway, United Kingdom

Salary: Highly Competitive Salary

Key Responsibilities:

  • Lead the preparation, delivery, and analysis of monthly Management Accounts (P&L & Balance Sheet) across the group, including preparing and commenting on summary reports for the Board, and proposing actions to improve business performance.
  • Oversee monthly Balance Sheet reconciliations, ensuring they are completed timely and accurately.
  • Recognize, analyze, report, and review sales via retail (own websites), trade customers, and online marketplaces.
  • Manage and enhance Cost of Sales reporting, analysis, and control, including regular stock takes.
  • Manage the Fixed Asset Register, including purchases and disposals.
  • Support the CFO with capital appraisals and business cases for major initiatives.
  • Manage company bank accounts, cash receipts, payments, and business loans.
  • Ensure effective credit control and debtor management.
  • Oversee purchase ledger, invoice processing, and supplier payments.
  • Review and implement processes for intercompany transactions and recharges.
  • Prepare and submit VAT returns.
  • Apply appropriate accounting standards and best practices.
  • Support timely statutory filings with HMRC, Companies House, etc.
  • Collaborate with Directors & Senior Managers to create and manage the annual budget.
  • Improve financial forecasting, planning, and analysis, including budgeting and cash flow management.
  • Enhance business partnering opportunities within Operations.
  • Lead, manage, and develop the finance team.

Skills and Attributes Required:

  • ACA/ACCA/CIMA qualification with strong knowledge of accounting principles and standards.
  • Experience in a manufacturing environment as a Management Accountant is preferred.
  • Excellent Excel skills.
  • Experience managing cash, expenditure, and credit control.
  • Proficiency with ERP systems.
  • Attention to detail and strong planning and organizational skills.
  • Ability to work under pressure and meet deadlines.
  • Exceptional interpersonal and communication skills.
  • Commercial thinking and ability to use financial data for business decisions.
