Job description

The Financial Controller is a senior management role responsible for the integrity, accuracy and efficiency of all financial and accounting operations within the UK and Netherland entities. This includes:

  • Implementing internal controls
  • Managing cash flow
  • Providing strategic financial insights to drive sustainable business decisions and growth

Reporting directly to the Finance Director, the Financial Controller will play a pivotal role in shaping financial policy, optimising performance, and leading a high-performing finance team.

About the Role

The Financial Controller is a senior management role responsible for the integrity, accuracy and efficiency of all financial and accounting operations within the UK and Netherland entities.

Responsibilities

  • Financial Reporting & Analysis: Prepare accurate monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements in accordance with UK GAAP, Dutch GAAP and US GAAP if applicable. Analyse financial data to identify trends, forecast future performance, and advise on financial planning and policy decisions. Ensure the integrity of the general ledger and all sub-ledgers across both entities.
  • Budgeting & Forecasting: Lead the budgeting process, including the development of the annual budget. Monitor budget variances and provide actionable insights and corrective strategies to guide business decisions.
  • Cash Flow Management: Manage the company’s cash flow, ensuring adequate liquidity for operational needs, while optimising the allocation of financial resources. Responsible for preparation of weekly 26 week cash flow.
  • Internal Controls & Compliance: Design, implement, and monitor effective internal control frameworks to safeguard assets and ensure compliance with corporate policies and local regulations. Ensure compliance with applicable laws, regulations, and standards, including GAAP and IFRS.
  • Tax Planning & Compliance: Oversee tax planning to optimise the company’s tax position and ensure compliance with local tax reporting requirements. Coordinate with external tax advisors as necessary.
  • Audit & Risk Management: Serve as primary point of contact for external auditors and coordinate with them during financial and operational audits. Identify financial risks and implement risk management strategies.
  • Financial Systems & Processes: Evaluate and improve financial systems and processes to increase efficiency and accuracy. Implement new technologies to support financial operations.
  • Team Leadership & Development: Lead, mentor and develop the finance and accounting team, fostering a culture of accountability, continuous improvement and professional growth. Provide clear goals, regular feedback, and opportunities for skills development.
  • Strategic Planning: Participate in strategic planning, providing insights and analysis to support long-term business growth and profitability.

Qualifications

  • Education: Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, Business Administration, or a related field.
  • Professional Certification: Qualified Accountant (ACA, ACCA, CIMA) or equivalent.
  • Experience: Minimum of 5–10 years in financial management roles, with at least 3 years in a leadership capacity.
  • Industry Knowledge: Experience in manufacturing or similar operationally complex industry is required.
