Detailed job description and main responsibilities
Financial
- Provide financial intelligence and advice, identifying early potential issues and discussing them with managers and the Head of Management Accounts.
- Lead in formulating financial aspects of divisional business cases, assessing risks and benefits, and advising on resource allocation.
- Participate in the Establishment Control Panel, ensuring correct costing of posts and achievement of efficiency targets.
- Prepare reports for the Trust Board, explaining complex financial data persuasively.
- Work with the Head of Management Accounts on monthly reporting, explaining variances, and recommending corrective actions.
- Develop costing and budgeting methodologies aligned with strategic plans.
- Assist in planning and coordinating the Trust’s budget setting process.
- Produce monthly forecasts, incorporating all known pressures and efficiencies.
Business Advice & Market Development
- Monitor and report on divisional activity and income, recommending operational improvements.
- Identify and act on financial opportunities and threats, including cross-divisional issues.
- Support divisional managers in achieving cost savings and revenue targets.
Governance
- Report on resource effectiveness and resource utilization to the Divisional Board.
- Ensure compliance with policies and procedures, alerting management to any concerns.

- Provide financial training to budget managers and new staff, promoting financial awareness and the role of finance as business partners.
Patient Impact
- Ensure services are financially viable without compromising clinical care, benchmarking against other Trusts.
