Job description

- Location: SAMS, Oban (we are open to discussing hybrid arrangements)

Role Overview:

You will work closely with the Head of Finance and Senior Finance Partners to provide a business partnering approach, ensure compliance across services, and deliver accurate information to internal/external stakeholders, funders, and regulatory bodies.

You will analyze the financial drivers of the organization—revenue, costs, and cash flow—to enhance reporting and support financial planning, budgeting, forecasting, and reporting processes, including monthly Management Accounts for the Group.

You will oversee the financial management of approximately 100 research contracts, monitor financial performance, and advise science project leaders on financial and administrative matters to ensure funding proposals meet funder and internal guidelines.

You will provide supervisory and coaching support to the Finance team and assist the Head of Finance with accounting activities, deputizing as needed.

Candidate Profile:
  • Recognized accountancy qualification (CA, CIMA, ACCA).
  • Excellent communication skills, capable of conveying financial information to non-financial managers.
  • Experience in supervision or team management, dealing with external auditors and finance providers.
  • Experience in developing financial information within diverse organizations; familiarity with charity accounting, research, or education sectors is preferred; commercial sector experience is a plus.
  • Energetic, enthusiastic, with integrity, fostering a positive and inclusive department culture.
