Please note, this role is based out of our Manchester Store Support Centre & Home. Colleagues go into the Manchester SSC 2 days per week on average.

As a Finance Associate - Credit Control, you will ensure that aged debt is minimized through proactive chasing and accurate reporting and analysis of data, shared across the team and business. You will reconcile balance sheets, raise journals, and contribute to process improvements and automation of procedures.

  1. Proactively investigate and chase debt across various ledgers using different systems to meet team KPIs.
  2. Build and maintain relationships with internal and external stakeholders.
  3. Escalate queries and problematic accounts, engaging with stakeholders to resolve issues.
  4. Update the Aged Debt report with notes to ensure accurate cash collection.
  5. Support audit deliverables and internal controls management.
  6. Understand all team tasks for absence and holiday cover.
  7. Support process efficiency improvements, collaborating with Sainsbury’s Business Services (SBS) and Offshore teams.
  8. Maintain and update process maps and guides, implementing new ones as needed.
  9. Identify and implement process improvements to eliminate risks at source.
  10. Use initiative to identify development areas and drive change.

More about you

  • Good knowledge of basic accounting principles.
  • Intermediate proficiency in Excel and other Microsoft packages.
  • Numerate and well-organized.
  • Strong communication skills.
  • Experience in Credit Control or Accounts Payable is desirable.
  • Basic knowledge of invoices, credit notes, debit notes, and VAT is desirable.
