Job description

Finance That’s Fast, Focused, and High Impact

Are you a finance professional who thrives in a fast-paced, get-things-done environment? Do you love the detail but also want to understand the why behind the numbers? Are you ready to grow your career and make a genuine impact in a high-growth SaaS company? If so, read on.

At Gecko, we help universities better engage with students - from first contact to graduation and beyond. Our software powers personalised, meaningful conversations across the entire student journey. We’re growing fast, and our finance operations need to scale with us.

The Role

This is not a passive finance support role. You’ll be deep in the numbers, helping keep Gecko financially sharp, compliant, and ready to scale. You’ll work closely with our Financial Controller, owning critical tasks while getting exposure to all areas of finance; from AR/AP to payroll, tax, reporting, and SaaS metrics.

You’ll need to be detail-obsessed, commercially curious, and ready to take real ownership. If you’re someone who wants to understand not just what the numbers say, but why they matter, this is your kind of role.

What You’ll Be Doing

  1. Keep the Cash Flowing – Raise invoices, track ARR, chase payments, and manage commission & renewal records.
  2. Know the Detail – Support revenue recognition, reconcile ledgers, and apply correct VAT/sales tax treatment across UK and US operations.
  3. Own the Essentials – Take charge of staff expenses, fixed asset tracking, and maintain compliance records for audit and month-end.
  4. Be Everywhere – Use platforms like Xero, Dext, payroll tools, and BI systems like ChartMogul.
  5. Support the Business – Work with Sales to meet university procurement requirements and keep finance operations clean and responsive.
  6. Help Us Grow Smarter – Reconcile inter-company transactions (between UK and US entities), prep month-end commentary, and dig into SaaS KPIs and variances.
  7. Jump into the Audit Process – Keep us audit-ready with clean records and quick, accurate responses to queries.
What You'll Bring

(And what we'll help develop)

  1. Solid accounting knowledge – especially around VAT, accruals, revenue recognition, and reconciliations.
  2. Confidence working with Excel or Google Sheets – you’ll spend a lot of time in them.
  3. A business-savvy mindset – you care about the numbers and the story behind them.
  4. Small business energy – organised, proactive, adaptable, and ready to roll your sleeves up.
  5. A hunger to grow – you’re on a journey and want to take on more, and you'll have a qualified Financial Controller to learn from along the way.
Bonus points if you have:

  1. Experience with Xero.
  2. Exposure to SaaS or subscription-based businesses.
  3. Some familiarity with payroll processing or US/UK sales tax.
What’s In It for You?
  1. A role that grows with you – real ownership, real learning, and real impact, with a tailored learning & development plan (plus financial support).
  2. JFDI Attitude: We believe in getting things done within a short 34-hour workweek - work with a team that moves fast and delivers real impact.
  3. Work-Life Balance: 33 days of holiday, optional compressed 4-day workweek, and flexible working arrangements.
  4. Workation: Take your work on the road and explore new horizons.
  5. Perks Galore: Private healthcare, pension, death in service, EAP, and employee discounts & benefits via Perkbox.
  6. Dynamic Virtual Environment: Work with some of the best in the biz in a dynamic, energetic, and super fun vibrant virtual office environment, where collaboration knows no bounds.
Ready to Make a Real Impact in Finance?

Before You Apply...

We’re so excited that you’re considering joining Gecko!

This Finance Assistant role is an important one, and we want to make sure it’s the right fit; for you and for us. To help with that, we’ve included a few short questions as part of the application. Some are practical (like your experience and qualifications), and others are designed to give us a better sense of who you are, how you think, and what drives you.

Top tip: We’re not looking for perfect answers - we’re looking for honest, thoughtful responses that help us get to know the real you. Don’t overthink it.

We’ve included a few short video questions; don’t worry, this isn’t about being polished or professional. Just be yourself. A quick phone-style recording is totally fine.

We also suggest reading our guidance on using AI in your application. Applications that appear to be obviously AI-generated won’t be considered.

Thanks again for your interest - we can’t wait to hear from you!

  1. Please note that we can only accept applications from UK-based applicants who already have a valid right to work in the UK.
