About the role

Balfour Beatty has an exciting opportunity for a Finance Assistant to join our outstanding Major Projects team at our Old Oak Common development in London. Join us and be part of the largest construction project in the UK.

HS2's new c. 1 billion Old Oak Common station will become the UK's best-connected rail station once completed. Our Balfour Beatty VINCI SYTRA joint venture will be responsible for the final design, construction, and commissioning of the station in Northwest London.

Upon completion, the new station will feature six underground platforms and up to eight platforms on the adjacent Great Western Main Line. It will also provide high-speed rail services to the Midlands, central London, Scotland, and the North, as well as direct services to three major airports. Incorporating passenger and retail facilities, the station aims to offer an exceptional customer experience.

What you'll be doing

  1. Review account transactions, including plant returns, material receipts, and GRNs, to ensure accuracy and efficiency.
  2. Interface directly with project staff to provide support and guidance from the site support function. Keep up to date with any changes to R12.
  3. Maintain awareness of and compliance with the Integrated Management System (BMS). Ensure all relevant Health & Safety requirements are met, and safe working practices are adopted at all times.
  4. Liaise with the Supplier Invoices Team in Newcastle (Shared Services Centre) to upload JV invoices into R12 where not delivered by Tradex.
  5. Report to the Finance Manager on process-related issues. Collaborate with the Assistant Project Accountant to drive efficiencies across the wider business.
  6. Review timesheet entries in the Timesheet Portal to verify time spent on the project.
  7. Work with the wider Finance team to ensure effective control mechanisms are maintained in the ledgers.

Who we're looking for

Essential

  • Willing to study / early stages AAT.
  • Awareness of cost control.
  • High level of integrity.
  • Proactive and diligent with a can-do attitude.

Desirable but not essential

  • Site support experience and understanding of the relationship between costs and the overall finance position.
  • Detailed knowledge of R12.
  • Good verbal and written communication skills, with experience working on large, fast-moving construction projects.
  • Ability to communicate and influence effectively at all levels of the business.
