As a Finance Assistant – Apprentice, you'll dive into the world of finance, playing a crucial role in the accurate processing and reconciliation of office and client funds while mastering VAT, SAR, and Anti Money Laundering regulations. Combining your on-the-job experience with the Level 3 Assistant Accountant Apprenticeship studies will provide you with a solid foundation and a head start in your career in Accounting and Finance. This structured programme is designed to equip you with the expertise and credentials needed to excel, setting you on a path to success.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

Legal Cashier

  • Ensuring day to day processing and reconciliation of both office and client funds is accurate, in line with business needs and in accordance with appropriate VAT, SAR and AML regulations
  • Logging/reviewing incoming client funds, allocating to the relevant matter and obtaining appropriate documentation
  • Inputting client payments and obtaining appropriate authorization and documentation in advance of deadlines
  • Processing and reconciling of professional disbursements, to include payment in line with SRA Accounts Rules
  • Monitoring of residual balances
  • Interest calculations on funds held in client accounts


Financial Accounting

  • Assist with the preparation of monthly general ledger reconciliations
  • Preparation of prepayments, accruals and journals
  • Help with reviewing and maintaining the fixed asset register
  • Preparation of quarterly & annual legal surveys and National Statistics reports
  • Monitoring of VAT accounts to identify incorrectly posted transactions


Accounts Payable Requirements

  • Entering vendor/supplier invoices into Emburse
  • Accounts payable enquiries
  • Assisting with any urgent manual payments for both Office and Client Account
  • Responsible for the corporate credit card and the reconciliation
  • Additional duties and responsibilities, as assigned

Educational Qualifications/Job Experience Requirements

  • Minimum 5 GCSEs, including A-C in Maths & English (or equivalent)

Working Schedule

  • As this is an apprenticeship, the role will be based on 80% working hours and 20% off the job learning time. The role will be a fixed term contract for the duration of the apprenticeship.
