Job description

Purpose:

The Finance and Tax Accountant plays a pivotal role in supporting our Group Tax Manager. In this dynamic role, you will champion a culture of heavy workload of robust tax compliance, identify opportunities for process improvement, and build collaborative relationships within the Finance team and across the wider business. This role also offers the exciting opportunity to broaden your expertise in both UK and international tax. All candidates must have at least a solid 4 years of heavy UK tax experience.

Key Deliverables:

  • Draft monthly UK and non-UK VAT return in accordance with relevant legislation and guidance whilst proactively identifying any possible process/risk issues and suggesting solutions.
  • Maintain up to date paperwork for imports and exports for VAT and customs.
  • Monitor and reconcile all tax related G/L (General Ledger) account codes.
  • Administer and monitor external tax advisor fees.
  • Ensure that the tax compliance tracker is up to date.
  • Draft the annual PSA (PAYE Settlement Agreement).
  • Involvement with employee taxes as required.
  • Deal with overseas Withholding Tax (WHT) including Certificate of Residence requests.
  • Deputise for Group Tax Manager as required.
  • Assist with General Ledger Code (G/L code) analysis and corporation tax compliance.
  • Assist with ad hoc tax related queries of an appropriate level resulting from the group’s changing operations.
  • Prepare and post journals as part of month end procedures.
  • Prepare balance sheet reconciliations and ensure reconciling items are resolved.
  • Maintain monthly schedules and reconcile reports to support ledger balances in preparation for audits.
  • Support the financial reporting team during audit work.

Minimum Requirements:

  • Part Qualified ACA/ACCA/CTA, studying to become fully qualified, with a commensurate level of tax technical knowledge.
  • Experience of preparing VAT returns.
  • Excellent attention to detail.
  • Proactive self-starter who sees things through to conclusion.
  • Excellent team player who shares knowledge and experience to build knowledge transfer throughout the department.
  • An interest in learning more about tax and VAT legislation and rules (UK and non-UK).
  • Proficient with Microsoft Excel.

Ideal:

  • Experience of import and export procedures.
  • Multi-currency experience.
  • Knowledge of IFS and/or Sage accounting software.
