Job summary

Superdrug Head Office is seeking a Commercial Finance professional to own stock reporting, budgeting support, and management accounting activities, turning data into actionable insights to drive profitability.

Based at our Croydon head office with hybrid working (two days from home, three days in the office near East Croydon Station), you will partner with Merchandising, Purchasing and Supply Chain to understand performance and deliver robust reporting.

Qualifications

• Part-qualified in an accountancy qualification or intent to study towards one.
• Strong Excel skills and the ability to learn new technical skills quickly.
• A passion for driving change and improving processes.
• A keen eye for detail and a genuine interest in Finance.
• Strong commercial awareness and the ability to understand and communicate the story behind the numbers.

Responsibilities

• Produce regular reporting and analysis on stock performance, stock value, weeks cover, and aged/slow-moving stock.
• Monitor budget vs forecast; highlight risks and opportunities.
• Partner with Finance, Merchandising, Buying and Supply Chain to understand performance and support decisions.
• Investigate issues using data to identify root causes and solutions.
• Analyse variances and communicate drivers behind performance to stakeholders.
• Work with large datasets to identify trends and anomalies.
• Provide ad-hoc analysis and support across the Finance team.
• Support month-end stock accounting activities and reconciliations.

This is a varied role within our Commercial Finance team, partnering with the Merchandising, Supply Chain and Buying teams.

You will take ownership of key reporting and management accounting activities, turning financial and operational data into clear, actionable insights. You will also help drive process improvements, enabling the business to deliver its company targets and improve profitability.

A day in this role includes:

• Producing regular reporting and analysis on stock performance, including stock value, weeks cover, and aged and slow-moving stock.
• Monitoring performance against budget and forecast, highlighting key risks and opportunities.
• Partnering with Finance, Merchandising, Buying and Supply Chain teams to understand performance and support decision-making.
• Investigating financial and operational issues independently, using data to identify root causes and recommend solutions.
• Analysing variances and clearly communicating the key drivers behind performance to stakeholders.
• Working with large datasets to identify trends, anomalies and areas requiring further investigation.
• Providing ad-hoc analysis and support across the wider Finance team.

Key Responsibilities:

• Support the Finance Manager with the management of stock provisions, write-offs and other stock-related P&L impacts.
• Support budgeting and forecasting processes by providing relevant analysis and commercial insight.
• Maintain and improve Excel and BI-based reporting, identifying opportunities to automate and simplify existing processes.
• Support month-end stock accounting activities, including balance sheet reconciliations, inventory reviews and the investigation of discrepancies.
• Support the month-end review of Cosmetics and Fragrance cost centres, reporting variances to the Heads of Trade.
• Investigate margin discrepancies and provide promotional analysis across two key trading areas.
• Build effective relationships with finance and non-finance stakeholders across the business.
• Proactively identify opportunities to improve reporting, controls and ways of working.
