Oxford Royale’s Film Academy programme, aimed at students aged 13-18, offers hands-on experience in filmmaking. We are seeking a Film Academy Technician who will assist the course’s teacher in delivering practical aspects of the programme and oversee the technical elements of student projects. The technician will be responsible for supporting students in the filming and editing processes, ensuring equipment is maintained and ready to use, and providing post-production assistance to help students edit their films.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Assist the teacher in practical aspects of filmmaking lessons, such as setting up equipment for filming, lighting, and sound.
  • Provide technical support to students during the filming process, ensuring they use cameras, microphones, and other equipment correctly.
  • Guide students through post-production, including editing, sound mixing, and special effects using industry-standard software.
  • Oversee the editing and production of student films, ensuring high technical quality and that deadlines are met.
  • Maintain and manage all filming equipment, ensuring it is in working condition and available for student use.
  • Troubleshoot technical issues during filming and editing to ensure smooth lesson progression.
  • Collaborate with teaching staff to ensure all technical requirements are met for the successful delivery of the course.

Person Specification:

  • Extensive knowledge of film production equipment, including cameras, lighting, sound recording, and editing software.
  • Proficiency in film editing using industry-standard tools (e.g., Adobe Premiere, Final Cut Pro).
  • Passion for working with students and helping them develop technical filmmaking skills.
  • Ability to troubleshoot and solve technical issues quickly and efficiently.
  • Strong organizational skills and attention to detail in managing equipment and film production schedules.
  • Fluency in English and the ability to communicate technical concepts clearly.

Position Details:

  • Programmes are two weeks in length, with options for 2, 4, or 6-week contracts available between July and mid-August 2025.
  • Support will be required during lessons from Monday to Friday, 09:00 to 16:00, though shorter hours may be available in some locations.
  • Compulsory online and in-person training will be required before the start of the programme.

Essential Qualifications:

  • Experience with film production, including the use of cameras, lighting, and sound equipment.
  • Proficiency in film editing software such as Adobe Premiere, Final Cut Pro, or similar.

Desirable Qualifications / Experience:

  • Experience working in a technical support or film production role, preferably within an educational setting.
  • Undergraduate degree in film production, media, or a related field is advantageous.
