Fighting With Pride – LGBTQ+ Veterans Community Worker (VCW)

£29,400 per annum based on 37.5 hours per week.

A hybrid role, partly based at The Poppy Factory in Richmond, London and partly homebased.

Full Time and a Fixed Term Contract initially until March 2026.

Fighting With Pride (FWP) is looking for an outstanding LGBTQ+ Veterans Community Worker to cover the London region. Initially for a period until March 2026, this fundamental, enabling, rewarding and busy role will make a real difference to the lives of LGBTQ+ Veterans, serving personnel and their families, in the London area (and working as part of team of VCWs covering the whole country). An LGBTQ+ Veterans Community Team Manager will support you, along with the Executive team at FWP.

FWP was formed in January 2020 to support LGBTQ+ Veterans, serving personnel and their families and is a registered charity, founded by Caroline Paige and Craig Jones, now led by Peter Gibson and overseen by a dynamic and experienced Board of Trustees.

The key activities of the role include reaching, connecting and supporting as many LGBTQ+ Veterans, serving personnel and families in the London area as possible, to build individual and community confidence and connect them to military and non-military organisations. You will also be working with veteran supporting organisations in London to educate them about the LGBTQ+ military community, raise awareness on the impact of the ban and help them connect and better support the LGBTQ+ defence community. You will also encourage sign up to the Pride in Veterans Standard (PiVS) to flag inclusive organisations to veterans.

You will have a keen interest in, and thorough understanding of, the challenges faced by the LGBTQ+ Veterans community (or other related community), previous experience of supporting and developing service users, strong relationship building skills and be a self-starter with demonstrable experience of helping people. This role is funded by The Poppy Factory.
