Job summary

Leeds City Council is seeking an Assistant Chargehand / Driver to join our Environmental Action teams. The role combines hands-on street cleaning with basic supervision of a small crew, delivering litter removal, fly-tip clearance and fleet vehicle operation.

You will work outdoors in all weather, hold a C1 up to 7.5 tonnes licence, and engage with residents to promote responsible waste disposal. The position offers a full-time permanent contract and opportunities for progression within the

Qualifications

• C1 category licence (up to 7.5 tonne) required.
• Ability to work as part of a team.
• Able to work outdoors in all weather conditions and unsocial hours.
• Able to undertake basic supervision of a small group of staff as required.
• Able to use basic hand tools safely and skilfully.

Responsibilities

• Operate fleet vehicles such as path sweepers and assist in cleaning duties.
• Support the Charge-hand by coordinating teams and resources.
• Promote responsible waste disposal and environmental stewardship within communities.
• Deliver work to high standards of cleanliness and appearance of neighbourhoods.
