THALES is looking to recruit a Field Services Engineer based at Cheadle Site for our Sonar Equipment.

Thales is the principal provider of Sonar equipment, support, and expertise to the Royal Navy, having supplied the guardians of the sea with specialist Sonar equipment for over 60 years.

As a Field Services Engineer, you will be responsible for the deployment, setting to work, and in-service support of Sonar and/or Electronic Warfare Systems deployed on Royal Navy and export customer ships/submarines.

Working hours: Monday to Thursday 07:00-15:30, Friday 07:00-12:00

What will you deliver?

• Ensure Health and Safety compliance during all activities
• Support Royal Navy and Export Platforms in defect rectification, fault diagnosis, testing, and acceptance trials both in harbour and at sea
• Provide on-call telephone support to customers (once sufficiently trained)
• Write site visit reports
• Support maintenance periods and refits, including inspections and scheduled maintenance activities
• Escalate engineering issues as required
• Write post-maintenance reports
• Provide weekly activity reports to management
• Adhere to export control rules and regulations, including ITAR

Who are we looking for?

• Significant experience with electronic equipment; experience with electrical and hydraulics systems is advantageous
• Network/IT experience is beneficial
• Experience working with armed forces and understanding their procedures is advantageous
• Ability to follow procedures and suggest improvements
• Hands-on approach with good documentation and communication skills
• Willingness to work at heights and in confined spaces
• Willing to spend time away from the factory, often with short notice
