This Field Service Technician role requires a proven track record in programming, teaching, and troubleshooting equipment incorporating robotics and robotic arm installations from suppliers such as KuKa, Fanuc, Yaskawa, and ABB.

This position demands excellent analytical and problem-solving skills for programming and troubleshooting Robotic packaging machinery, line control systems, and specific experience with Allen-Bradley (ControlLogix, PLC5, SLC500), Siemens S7 PLCs, PanelView Plus HMI, Industrial Communication Networks (Ethernet IP, ASI, Profibus), and Indramat Servo Drives (Indra Drive, CS). The technician must understand advanced machine motion, operation controls, VFD functions, operations, and programming, along with pneumatic and electrical schematics troubleshooting.

The role includes site start-up support for integrated packaging equipment in the consumer products industry. It involves working in customer manufacturing facilities worldwide and at our Bircotes, Doncaster location on design, build, and testing of equipment before shipment. Extensive travel and physical activity are required.

Qualified individuals must work independently and within a team, be accountable remotely, and meet project deadlines. Holiday and weekend work are routine.

RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Support teamwork and align with company policies and values.
  • Perform I/O checks and troubleshoot system wiring.
  • Conduct site surveys and participate in technical meetings.
  • Program Robots, PLCs (including safety features), and HMIs (Siemens, Rockwell, others).
  • Update project documentation with as-built information.
  • Participate in Internal and Customer PDI’s.
  • Sign off on equipment and projects as complete, ensuring they are fit for purpose, complete, and tested.
  • Start up, commission, fault find, and remotely support equipment.
  • Supervise contractors under the scope of work.
  • Provide training to customer staff.
  • Upload and identify the latest software versions on the network.
  • Complete tasks within timelines and budget.
  • Manage expenses and maintain tidy, hazard-free work areas.
  • Comply with health and safety legislation and company policies.
  • Travel as required, potentially on short notice, domestically and internationally.
  • Work overtime, evenings, and weekends as needed.
  • Attend training courses locally and abroad.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS & EXPERIENCE
  • Over 3 years’ experience with robotic systems, preferably in packaging.
  • HNC/HND in engineering or related field.
  • Experience with software design, Rockwell/Siemens PLCs, motion, and servo control is beneficial.
  • Strong interpersonal and time management skills.
  • Ability to convert various information into project documentation.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office.
  • Ability to manage multiple responsibilities concurrently.
  • Self-motivated, flexible, and team-oriented.
  • Driven with a positive attitude.
