Job summary

Wabtec UK is seeking a Field Service Engineer HVAC to support customers and products at Wabtec sites and customer locations in Derby. You will diagnose and repair train HVAC systems and determine the most effective solution to return trains to service.

This role requires technical HVAC knowledge, hands-on experience, and strong fault-finding abilities. You will compile clear technical reports and maintain organisational excellence while working with IT tools on-site.

Qualifications

ONC or NVQ Level 3 in Mechanical and/or Electrical Engineering is required.
Technical HVAC knowledge is essential.
Strong fault-finding abilities are needed.
Significant hands-on experience in relevant technical areas (e.g., engines, diagnostics).
Competent IT skills, particularly with MS Excel and laptop/tablet devices.
Capable of compiling clear and accurate technical reports.
Strong organisational skills with the ability to manage workload independently.
Excellent interpersonal skills.

Responsibilities

Respond to call-out requests and liaise directly with customers to access trains.
Diagnose and repair train HVAC systems.
Determine the most effective solution to return trains to service.
Replace faulty parts on-site or escalate if replacement isn’t possible.
Conduct thorough testing before handing the train back to the customer.
Maintain a strong customer-centric approach in all interactions.
