Job description

Field Service Engineer – PLCs – Bespoke Machinery

North Yorkshire

Permanent

Samuel Frank is recruiting for an OEM based in North Yorkshire as they’re looking for a Field Service Engineer to join their service team on a staff basis.

Good knowledge of PLCs is expected; the successful Field Service Engineer will have likely worked for an end-user in the past, be a strong fault-finder on existing PLC code, and can make PLC code changes where required.

The Field Service Engineer role will focus on working on machines on the shop floor rather than being away Monday-Friday every week.

Key aspects of the role include:

  • Strong PLC code interrogation experience with the ability to make changes to existing code (Siemens, Rockwell, or Beckhoff)
  • Ability to upload and download PLC code
  • Servo control knowledge
  • Candidate should be based within commuting distance of Leeds, Selby, Wetherby, Harrogate, Ripon, York, Pontefract, Doncaster, Hull/East Yorkshire, or Wakefield
  • Previous experience working away on customer sites
  • Understanding of automated machinery and machine processes
  • Knowledge of Siemens Simotion is highly advantageous
  • Knowledge of robotics and/or vision systems would be useful; training on robotics could be provided

Other aspects include:

  • The role involves approximately 75% factory-based and 25% site-based activities, with the factory located between Leeds and York
  • You will be allocated a Principal Engineer for guidance and mentorship
  • UK and international travel, typically 1-2 weeks per trip, with about 3-4 international trips per year
  • When not on customer sites, work finishes at lunchtime on Fridays
  • Hours over 39 per week will be paid at 1.5x Monday to Saturday and 2.0x on Sundays
  • Most site work is pre-planned, with minimal reactive work involved
  • Access to a company vehicle for site work (excluding daily commute)
