Job summary

Our client, a leading defence and security organisation, requires a Field Service Engineer to support military simulation equipment and training across the UK. Based in Bovington, the role involves travel to sites nationwide and delivering training to UK land forces in both simulated and live environments.

The role includes 1st/2nd line IT support, fault diagnosis, and maintenance, with opportunities to assist in system upgrades, testing, and installation at new training locations.

Qualifications

• Experience in IT support, field service engineering or technical customer support.
• Practical knowledge of 1st-line and 2nd-line troubleshooting and fault resolution.
• Understanding of military training systems, simulation software or synthetic training environments.
• UK Army experience or strong understanding of military training operations.
• Experience using simulation software, ideally VBS4.
• Working knowledge of mechanical and/or electrical maintenance tasks.
• Clear and confident communication skills, with the ability to deliver training and explain technical information.
• Ability to work independently, manage changing priorities and maintain a calm, professional approach in challenging environments.

Responsibilities

• Deliver safe and effective training on military simulation systems, including driver and crew simulators, indirect fires simulators and joint fires synthetic training systems.
• Act as the main point of contact for instructors and trainees at customer locations
• Provide 1st-line and 2nd-line IT support, including fault diagnosis, equipment care and maintenance
• Work with technical and support teams to resolve faults and maintain system availability
• Support system upgrades, testing, installation, site acceptance and the setup of new training locations
• Conduct site visits and recommend the resources required for successful training delivery
• Produce post-exercise reports, capture accurate data and monitor system performance through relevant KPIs
• Support the induction and mentoring of new Field Service Representatives and contribute to wider simulation activities
