Job description

Field Service Engineer – Labels & Packaging Machinery
Location: Manchester based with UK and occasional international travel

Salary: Up to £36,000 Bonus Company Van Door-to-Door Overtime

We’re representing a global leader in post-printing solutions for the labels and flexible packaging sector. Known for their commitment to innovation, customer support, and technical excellence, they’re now looking to expand their UK technical team with the addition of an experienced and hands-on Field Service Engineer.

With a strong and growing footprint in the UK and Europe, this is an excellent opportunity to join a company offering long-term career progression, a collaborative work culture, and exposure to world-class machinery.

About the Role

This is a field-based position with regular travel across the UK and occasional travel into Europe. You’ll play a key role in delivering exceptional technical service, covering everything from installations and relocations to diagnostics and repairs. When not on the road, you'll provide remote support and assist with technical demonstrations.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Full machinery installations, decommissions, relocations and recommissions of specialist converting and finishing equipment.
  • Electrical and mechanical fault finding and repair — including diagnosis and repair down to component level (such as relays, sensors, drives, PLCs, and motors).
  • In-depth work with three-phase power systems, including installation, testing, and fault rectification.
  • Reading and interpreting detailed electrical and mechanical schematics to troubleshoot and resolve issues.
  • Performing scheduled preventative maintenance and emergency breakdown support across customer sites.
  • Conducting on-site customer training and technical demonstrations of new equipment.
  • Representing the brand professionally and acting as a trusted technical advisor to customers.
  • Liaising with the internal technical support team to feedback on performance, warranty issues, and product improvements.

About You

  • Proven field service background within the print, packaging, converting, or machinery manufacturing industries.
  • Strong understanding of industrial electrical systems, including three-phase power, wiring, control panels, and system integration.
  • Ability to diagnose and repair faults down to component level — not just swapping parts.
  • Solid grasp of mechanical systems, including drives, pneumatics, tension control, and bearings.
  • Confident using electrical test equipment, hand tools, and diagnostic software.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills — able to build rapport with customers and explain technical issues clearly.
  • Comfortable with extensive travel and overnight stays as required.
  • Full UK driving licence is essential.

What’s On Offer

  • Bonus scheme Door-to-door paid overtime
  • Fully equipped company van, tools, and travel expenses covered
  • Comprehensive benefits package and pension
  • Ongoing manufacturer training and development
  • Supportive, close-knit team environment
  • Opportunities to grow with a forward-thinking, global organisation

Join a company at the forefront of technical innovation in labels and packaging machinery. If you're a hands-on engineer with a passion for problem-solving and a strong mechanical/electrical background, we want to hear from you.
