Summary of position:

This is an exciting opportunity to join a market-leading engineering company, working with advanced mechatronic capital machinery. Ideal for candidates with a strong background in mechatronics, this role offers excellent career progression, hands-on experience, and comprehensive training both in the UK and Germany.

The successful candidate is required to provide support in the application of mechanical testing, including associated servicing, commissioning, and training for our customers. The position requires a sound technical background over a broad range of disciplines, self-motivation, an ability to work unsupervised, and good organisation. Experience in the field of destructive and non-destructive testing is valuable.

As a Field Service Engineer, you will support the full lifecycle of mechanical testing equipment – from installation and calibration, to maintenance, repairs, training, and upgrades. Your work will be predominantly field based across Ireland and Northern Ireland, with some travel to the UK as needed.

Reporting to the Service Manager, you will be trained by a combination of shadowing senior engineers, and training in house or in our headquarters in Germany before being responsible for completing the work assigned to you. We constantly encourage technical progression, training, and self-improvement to adapt to the ever-changing work environment.

You will be working within a variety of appealing manufacturing sectors including the aerospace, construction, medical devices, and pharmaceutical industries amongst others. Calibration Technician –> Senior Calibration Technician –> Field Service Engineer –> Senior Field Service Engineer

Key Responsibilities:

  1. Ensure equipment reliability and uptime through effective on-site maintenance, repair, and support (Repair – Report – Follow Up)
  2. Perform UKAS-accredited calibrations and annual service checks
  3. Install and configure new equipment, software, and accessories to customer requirements
  4. Support consultancy and training initiatives, contributing to the team’s technical excellence and customer value delivery
  5. Serve as a technical resource by diagnosing and resolving complex issues across mechanical and electronic systems on customer site
  6. Embrace continuous development and adapt to emerging technologies to maintain expertise in a rapidly evolving technical environment
  7. Ensure timely and accurate completion of service documentation and expense reporting in line with company standards and audit requirements
  8. Promote growth by identifying potential value-added service or sales opportunities
  9. Maintain compliance with Health & Safety and Quality Management standards

Profile - What We’re Looking For:

Essential Skills & Qualifications:
  1. Completion of a recognised apprenticeship scheme, HNC or higher is required for this position
  2. Strong understanding of engineering drawings and electronic principles
  3. Confident working independently in a field-based role
  4. Excellent customer facing skills – you are the face of the company to our customers
  5. Sound mechanical skills, including assembly/disassembly and the ability to perform thorough fault finding independently on-site
  6. Willingness to travel (up to 80%) including training in Austria and Germany
Desirable Skills & Experience:
  1. HNC or degree in Mechatronics, Electronics, or a related discipline
  2. A sound knowledge of the theory & application of transducers and materials testing machines
  3. A sound knowledge of electrical/electronic systems, from first principles, such as to permit the design and build of circuits
  4. An understanding of the basic principles of PLCs (programmable logic controllers), Hydraulics, and/or closed-loop control systems.
  5. Attention to detail and structured troubleshooting skills
  6. Experience in workshop practices, including fitting and machine tools
  7. Calibration experience in the materials testing industry
