Job Description
The primary function of the role is to prepare, perform, test and commission marine high and low voltage marine propulsion drive systems in support of new build, upgrade and service projects. You will verify that the system commissioned matches the functional design specifications and implement necessary corrections to meet these specifications.
Key responsibilities include:
- Engineering activities: preparing, planning, testing, and commissioning high and low voltage drive system upgrades. Performing routine maintenance tasks and training across all GE Marine UK customer drive systems, both onshore and offshore.
- Analyzing, diagnosing, and repairing drives-related software and hardware defects across the installed systems.
- Writing, updating, and maintaining documentation according to company procedures and best practices.
- Providing technical support to customers and internal GE staff as needed.
- Liaising with engineering, Fleet Managers, and other GE personnel to fulfill the role of Drive Field Service Engineer (FSE).
- Complying with company and customer EHS policies, procedures, and safe systems of work.
- Maintaining personal competence through applicable training.
- Leading and contributing to FSE teams for various engineering activities as directed.
- Carrying out marine service administrative tasks as directed by the marine service manager.
We seek a committed and professional individual with:
- Higher National Diploma in Electrical Engineering or equivalent, or relevant experience working on complex drive systems.
- Experience with PC/PLC equipment.
- Experience with high and low voltage variable speed drive control systems and hardware.
- Understanding of networks and communication protocols like Modbus.
- Proven site work experience.
- Good communication skills in English, both written and verbal.
- Health and Safety training.
- Ability to achieve UK Security Vetting clearance.
- Willingness to work globally and offshore.
- Ability to travel overseas on short notice.
Desirable qualities include:
- Valid Offshore survival training certificate.
- Valid safety training certificates such as IOSH managing safely or NEBOSH.
- Familiarity with IEC and marine classification society rules.
- Full clean driving license.
- Flexible working attitude.
- Ability to work independently.
