Job Description

Field Service Engineer (Generator Service Engineer)

Full Time

South East/ Mobile across UK

An exciting opportunity has arisen to join Rolls-Royce Power Systems as a Field Service Engineer (Generator Service Engineer). Reporting to the Service Supervisor for the PowerGen Business Unit, you will be responsible for the day-to-day planned preventative maintenance services, unplanned reactive maintenance services, and scheduled repairs including replacement, upgrades, or additional works on our MTU Kinetic Power Packs (Dynamic Uninterruptible Power Systems) and Diesel Generators. You'll travel around the UK in your company-provided vehicle, carrying out a mixture of scheduled service work and reactive work which may involve overnight stays, so a flexible approach to working patterns is required.

There is also a requirement to provide 365/24/7 emergency on-call coverage as part of the Field Service Engineers on-call rota.

Field Service Engineers are expected to play an ambassadorial role for the company, with recognised technical skills.

What we offer

We offer excellent development opportunities, a competitive salary, and exceptional benefits. These include bonus, employee support assistance, and employee discounts.

What you will be doing:

  • Comply with all relevant Health and Safety legislation applicable to the role.
  • Use diagnostic tools and procedures to identify faults which can be communicated to the customer.
  • Provide 365/24/7 emergency on-call coverage as part of the Field Service Engineers call-out rota.
  • Compile Technical Reports on completion of each job detailing the work undertaken and the reasons why.
  • Carry out service, repairs, and commissioning for Dynamic Uninterruptible Power Systems, Diesel Engines, and their Ancillaries and Control Systems.
  • Assist and support the Project Manager on the installation, commissioning, and testing of new Dynamic Uninterruptible Power Systems, Diesel Generator Systems, and associated balance of plant equipment.
  • Build and develop strong professional relationships with all client stakeholders and suppliers in order to successfully carry out your duties.

Who we're looking for:

At Rolls-Royce, we put safety first, do the right thing, keep it simple, and make a difference. These principles form the behaviours that guide us and are an essential component of our assessment process.

The Field Service Engineer job is home-based; however, the engineer may be required to work in the offices/workshops in East Grinstead when not in the field. The job is physically demanding and requires a disciplined individual who is capable of delivering/communicating the high standards expected of a blue-chip company.

For this role, we are looking for someone with:
  • Willingness to work away from home during the week and be prepared to travel extensively within the UK, Ireland, and overseas.
  • Significant fieldwork experience.
  • Appropriate qualifications in Mechanical or Electrical Engineering or a similar relevant qualification or demonstrable industry experience.
  • Knowledge of the power generation industry, preferably with field installation and service experience in the UK and overseas territories of Dynamic Uninterruptible Power Systems, Static UPS, Diesel or Gas Genset products, applications, and associated ancillary systems to form a complete turnkey solution in LV and MV.
  • Experience on Control Systems preferred.
  • Ability to understand mechanical and electrical drawings.

The professional level and the salary of the position will depend on the skills and experience of the successful candidate.

We are an equal opportunities employer. We're committed to developing a diverse workforce and an inclusive working environment. We believe that people from different backgrounds and cultures give us different perspectives which are crucial to innovation and problem-solving.

We believe the more diverse perspectives we have, the more successful we'll be. By building a culture of caring and belonging, we give everyone who works here the opportunity to realise their full potential.
