Full Time

An exciting opportunity has arisen to join Rolls-Royce Power Systems as a Field Service Engineer (Generator Service Engineer).

Reporting to the Service Supervisor for the PowerGen Business Unit, you will be responsible for planned preventative maintenance, unplanned reactive maintenance, and scheduled repairs—including replacements, upgrades, or additional works—on our MTU Kinetic Power Packs (Dynamic Uninterruptible Power Systems) and Diesel Generators. The role involves traveling around the UK in a company-provided vehicle, performing scheduled and reactive work, which may require overnight stays, thus flexibility in working patterns is essential.

There is also a requirement to provide 24/7 emergency on-call coverage as part of the Field Service Engineers on-call rota.

Field Service Engineers are expected to serve as ambassadors for the company, demonstrating recognized technical skills.

Why Rolls-Royce?

Rolls-Royce is one of the most enduring and iconic brands globally, leading innovation for over a century. We design, build, and service systems that deliver critical power where safety and reliability are paramount.

We are committed to being a force for progress—powering, protecting, and connecting people worldwide. We want to ensure that the excellence and ingenuity that define our history continue into the future, and we invite you to join us on this journey.

What we offer

We provide excellent development opportunities, a competitive salary, and exceptional benefits, including bonuses, employee support assistance, and discounts.

What you will be doing:

  • Comply with all relevant Health and Safety legislation applicable to the role.
  • Use diagnostic tools and procedures to identify faults and communicate findings to customers.
  • Provide 24/7 emergency on-call coverage as part of the call-out rota.
  • Prepare technical reports after each job, detailing work undertaken and reasons.
  • Carry out service, repairs, and commissioning for Dynamic Uninterruptible Power Systems, Diesel Engines, and their controls and auxiliaries.
  • Assist and support the Project Manager during installation, commissioning, and testing of new systems and associated equipment.
  • Build and maintain strong professional relationships with clients and suppliers to facilitate successful job completion.

Who we’re looking for:

At Rolls-Royce, safety, integrity, simplicity, and making a difference are core principles guiding our behavior and assessment process.

The role is home-based, but you may need to work from our East Grinstead offices or workshops when not in the field. The role is physically demanding, requiring a disciplined individual capable of maintaining high standards expected of a blue-chip company.

Ideal candidates will have:

  • Willingness to travel extensively within the UK, Ireland, and overseas, including away from home during the week.
  • Significant fieldwork experience.
  • Qualifications in Mechanical or Electrical Engineering, or demonstrable relevant industry experience.
  • Knowledge of power generation, particularly with field installation and service experience in the UK and overseas, involving Dynamic Uninterruptible Power Systems, Static UPS, Diesel, or Gas Genset products and associated systems in LV and MV.
  • Experience with Control Systems is preferred.
  • Ability to interpret mechanical and electrical drawings.

The professional level and salary will depend on the skills and experience of the successful candidate.

We are an equal opportunities employer committed to fostering a diverse and inclusive workforce. We believe diverse perspectives drive innovation and problem-solving.
