Field Service Engineer

About the Role:

We are seeking a Field Service Engineer based at our Horsham depot, covering London and the Greater London area.

The role focuses on delivering first-class service to internal and external customers, actively seeking revenue opportunities and discussing these with customers, Customer Support Representatives, and your Line Manager.

What you will be doing:

1. Service and repair Volvo construction equipment or miscellaneous equipment.
2. Identify mechanical problems using technical knowledge and computerized diagnostic equipment, providing guidance and advice to customers.
3. Perform duties in a commercially focused manner, seeking additional service revenue opportunities and promoting aftermarket solutions.
4. Work within quotations and time guides, informing management of any additional work required.
5. Ensure software updates are installed as released.
6. Complete tablet inputs, electronic reports, and timesheets in real time, providing detailed work records.
7. Order parts as necessary and return parts in a clean condition upon job completion.
8. Work overtime when required and respond to call-out requests.
9. Attend relevant product or systems training courses.

Requirements

Knowledge, Skills, and Experience

• Formal engineering qualification in Plant Maintenance, Agricultural/HGV mechanics, or related discipline (e.g., NVQ 3/C&G).
• Relevant experience in repairing and maintaining heavy construction plant, with proven competence on diesel engines, transmissions, drive lines, hydraulics, and electrics.
• Advanced diagnostic and troubleshooting skills, with a thorough understanding of hydraulics, electrics, and EATS.
• Effective communication skills with colleagues, management, and customers.
• Cost-conscious mindset to maximize profitability.
• Strong problem-solving and diagnostic skills.
• Proficiency with computer systems and Outlook.
• High attention to detail and conscientiousness.
• Reliability, honesty, and responsibility.
• Ability to interpret technical literature and systems.

Desirable: Experience in welding and fabrication.
