Job description

Are you an experienced Field Service Engineer with strong mechanical and electrical engineering skills, looking to support advanced naval systems in the UK and around the world?

TKMS ATLAS UK is looking for a proactive and flexible Senior Field Service Engineer to join our Operations team based at Dorset Innovation Park, Winfrith. This role has been created to support the continued growth of our business and expanding portfolio of in-service submarine and surface ship systems.

Our Operations team provides critical support to customers by maintaining, testing, fault-finding and repairing complex maritime equipment throughout its operational lifecycle. As a Senior Field Service Engineer, you will play a key role in ensuring our systems continue to deliver operational capability to the Royal Navy and international customers, directly supporting our mission to provide innovative maritime solutions that deliver advantage at the frontline.

Working closely with the Operations Lead and wider engineering teams, you will provide technical support for a range of in-service equipment and handling systems. This is a varied and hands‑on role that offers the opportunity to work both at our Winfrith facility and at customer sites across the UK and internationally.

Key responsibilities will include:
  • Providing field service support for in‑service ATLAS UK equipment and handling systems in the UK and overseas.
  • Diagnosing faults and carrying out repairs, testing and maintenance activities on mechanical and electrical systems.
  • Supporting equipment surveys, system grooms, integration activities and repairs on customer platforms.
  • Conducting inspections, repairs and maintenance of equipment at ATLAS UK facilities.
  • Producing clear and accurate technical reports, including survey findings, repair recommendations and equipment trend analysis.
  • Supporting equipment trials and testing activities at customer locations, test facilities and ATLAS UK sites.
  • Working closely with engineering teams to identify and resolve technical issues.
  • Undertaking secondments within other departments to develop product and system knowledge.
  • Deploying at short notice when required to support operational customer requirements.
  • Maintaining excellent customer relationships and acting as a professional ambassador for TKMS ATLAS UK.
What we’re looking for

To be successful in this role, you will bring a combination of technical expertise, problem-solving capability and a customer-focused approach. We are particularly interested in candidates who can demonstrate:

  • HNC/HND qualification in Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Marine Engineering, or equivalent practical experience.
  • Strong fault‑finding, diagnostic and problem‑solving skills across electro‑mechanical systems.
  • Experience working with mechanical and electrical drawings and technical documentation.
  • Ability to work independently and make sound engineering decisions in operational environments.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills with the ability to engage effectively with customers, suppliers and colleagues at all levels.
  • Willingness and ability to travel and deploy within the UK and internationally, often at short notice.
  • Experience within maritime, naval, defence or marine engineering environments would be advantageous, particularly previous Royal Navy or MOD experience.
