Job description

Due to sustained growth, Labman is seeking to recruit a Field Service Engineer to join our team in Bracknell.

Labman delivers bespoke robotic and software systems to major companies and public bodies worldwide. The role is challenging and dynamic, offering opportunities to work with a wide range of established and emerging technologies, allowing for continuous learning and skill development.

You will be part of a small team of engineers based in Bracknell, with opportunities to work with industry-leading customers. The role involves regular visits to Labman's headquarters in North Yorkshire and potential travel within the UK and internationally.

The position involves working with electro-mechanical assemblies, plumbing, pneumatics, robotic arms, and various scientific equipment. It is suitable for an enthusiastic individual eager to expand skills across engineering disciplines, tackling unique challenges with remote support and documentation. Labman provides training and support for professional growth, welcoming candidates with diverse experience levels.

Relevant transferable skills may include experience from industries such as Building Management Systems, Control Engineering, HVAC, On-site Maintenance, Vehicle Engineering, Agricultural or HGV mechanics, etc.

What the Job Involves
  1. Preventative Maintenance & Repairs: Install, maintain, and repair laboratory automation systems.
  2. Technical Support: Provide on-site technical assistance and training to customers, operators, and internal teams.
  3. Troubleshooting: Diagnose and resolve technical issues promptly to minimize downtime and ensure operational excellence.
  4. Quality Assurance: Conduct performance testing to meet Labman's quality standards.
  5. Customer Engagement: Build strong relationships through excellent service and timely solutions.
  6. Documentation: Record all service activities, maintenance, and customer interactions accurately; organize support work by identifying issues, preparing schedules, estimates, and resources.
  7. Travel: Travel to customer sites as required.
  8. Business Development: Identify opportunities for system upgrades and improvements.
Essential Capabilities
  • Proven experience in problem solving and fault-finding, including decision-making, clear communication, research, and analysis skills.
  • Strong electromechanical knowledge.
  • Willingness to travel within the UK and potentially globally, primarily based in the SouthEast.
  • Ability to commute daily to the Jealotts Hill Research Centre, Bracknell.
  • Ability to work independently, take initiative, and prioritize tasks.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Physical fitness for on-site tasks, including lifting and equipment handling.
  • Valid driving license.
  • Experience with industrial PLC systems.
  • Experience in the automation industry.
  • Experience in a customer-facing role.
  • Previous diagnostics experience with electromechanical systems.
  • CAD experience, particularly SolidWorks (preferred but not required).
