Overview

Forel UK and Ireland Ltd is seeking a highly motivated and technically skilled Field Service Engineer to join our expanding team. This is an exciting opportunity for an individual with a strong engineering background to work with cutting-edge glass processing machinery across the UK, Ireland, and overseas. As a Field Service Engineer, you will be responsible for the installation, commissioning, maintenance, and repair of advanced machinery primarily used within the Glass and Processing markets. This hands-on role offers a dynamic work environment, combining mechanical, electrical, pneumatic, and hydraulic systems, and will require travel to customer sites both locally and internationally.

Responsibilities
  • Install, commission, and service Forel glass machinery at customer sites across the UK, Ireland, and overseas.
  • Perform scheduled and emergency maintenance, diagnostics, and repairs of machinery to minimise customer downtime.
  • Interpret and work from electrical wiring, pneumatic, and hydraulic diagrams.
  • Troubleshoot and resolve faults on complex PLC and servo-controlled systems.
  • Deliver professional customer support and ensure high levels of customer satisfaction.
  • Provide technical assistance and training to customers and colleagues as required.
  • Liaise with sister companies in Italy, Germany, and the USA to ensure service consistency and efficiency.
  • Complete service documentation accurately and submit timely reports.
  • Maintain company-provided equipment, vehicle, and tools in good working order.
  • Represent the company in a professional manner at all times.
Requirements
  • HNC/HND or equivalent in an engineering discipline (electrical, mechanical, or mechatronics).
  • Proven experience with multi-skilled engineering (electrical, mechanical, pneumatic, and hydraulic systems).
  • Strong fault-finding and problem-solving abilities.
  • Familiarity with PLC and servo-controlled systems.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills, with a customer-focused approach.
  • Ability to read and interpret complex technical diagrams.
  • A proactive “can-do” attitude with a willingness to work independently or as part of a team.
  • Flexibility to travel regularly, including staying away from home and overseas trips.
  • Full UK clean driving license is essential.
  • Knowledge of Italian is advantageous but not essential.
