Service Engineer

Food Processing Equipment

£45,000 + overtime (OTE £55-60K)

Overtime rates: 1.25x weekdays, 1.5x weekends

Location & Travel:

Based in Ashford, Kent

Covering the entire UK (overnight stays required) average 1 p/w

We are looking for a multi-skilled Service Engineer to join a leading food processing equipment distributor. This role is ideal for an electrically biased engineer with a strong mechanical background, experienced in installing, servicing, and maintaining food processing machinery.

Key Responsibilities:

1. Installation & Commissioning: Setting up new processing lines and ensuring they are fully operational, including configuring electrical and mechanical components.
2. Breakdowns & Repairs: Diagnosing faults and carrying out repairs efficiently to minimize downtime for customers.
3. Routine Servicing & Maintenance: Conducting planned maintenance on a range of food processing equipment, ensuring longevity and optimal performance.
4. Electrical Work: Installing and troubleshooting electrical systems, including wiring, reading electrical diagrams, and working with 3-phase (415V) machinery.
5. PLC Fault Finding & Networking: Identifying faults in PLC-controlled systems and ensuring seamless integration with other equipment.
6. Mechanical Work: Working with hydraulics, pneumatics, bearings, belts, motors, shafts, pulleys, and gearboxes.
7. Customer Support: Providing technical advice and assistance to clients on-site, ensuring a high standard of customer service.
8. Travel & On-Site Work: Covering sites across the UK, requiring frequent travel and overnight stays as needed.
9. Compliance & Safety: Ensuring all work adheres to health and safety regulations and company standards.

What We’re Looking For:

1. Time-served apprenticeship with an electrical qualification
2. Strong electrical and mechanical skills with experience in capital equipment for the food industry
3. Ability to work independently and manage a UK-wide service territory
4. Strong problem-solving skills and the ability to think quickly in high-pressure situations
5. Willingness to travel extensively, including overnight stays
