Field Sales Executive

Location: Slough/Reading

Hours of Work: 9.00 am to 5.00 pm

This role is field-based with HQ visits and offsite meetings. Salary: up to £25,000-£27,000 per annum, plus a 10% performance-related bonus. Benefits include a laptop, phone, group benefits (DIS, Pension, Health Shield Cash Back Plan), 20 days holidays plus 8 bank holidays, and a company van/car.

Instore, part of Smiths News, is recruiting a Field Sales Representative to expand retail distribution points by selling our client’s products within the Independent Retail Sector (Convenience, CTN, Grocery, etc.). Experience in field sales and demonstrating ability in this area are essential. The successful candidate will join our field sales team representing Instore on behalf of our global client.

The client is a well-known household brand supplying supermarkets, high street stores, garden centres, and e-commerce. Their product range and displays are ideal for the independent market, offering high-quality products at various price points, seasonal ranges, attractive margins, and ongoing retailer support through engaging marketing strategies. Our partnership with the client enables us to provide their field sales function.

This role involves managing a designated territory, visiting retailers to promote the new service offer, and acting as the key liaison between the brand, Instore, and Smiths News. Effective communication between all parties is crucial.

Main Duties and Responsibilities
  • Drive sales and distribution targets to meet KPIs across various accounts, engaging with business owners to complete sales.
  • Develop strong customer relationships within your territory and identify new distribution opportunities.
  • Approach sales with an entrepreneurial mindset.
  • Identify Key Accounts with bulk distribution potential (Mini Multiples/Others).
  • Maximize brand presence within your trade area.
  • Complete all calls within your territory plan daily.
  • Maintain a high-performance field mentality to meet all KPIs.
  • Use effective communication to share best practices, keep the Line Manager informed, and foster engagement with customers.
  • Proactively escalate and resolve issues.
  • Maintain expert knowledge of the client’s business and products to aid sales success.
  • Consistently execute high standards.
  • Provide quality feedback to your line manager to support the client’s growth strategy.
  • Complete administrative tasks efficiently and accurately.
  • Understand the retail landscape to leverage competitor insights and seasonal opportunities.
  • Understand the Smiths News delivery network to facilitate ongoing product ordering.
Candidate Requirements

Ideal candidates will have:

  • Excellent communication and presentation skills.
  • Experience in sales or retail, preferably within FMCG or consumer goods.
  • Brand ambassador experience is a plus.
  • Strong relationship-building skills and sales techniques.
  • Experience in remote field activities, achieving sales targets and KPIs.
  • Strong organizational and planning skills.
  • Proven ability to drive sales through education.
  • Good analytical skills.
  • Successful sales track record.
  • Ability to influence and implement change.
  • Skill in documenting ideas and actions to improve performance.
