Job summary

Artemis Chase - Defence & Space Specialists is seeking a Forward Deployed Software Engineer to join a team delivering advanced technology for UK defence. You will work on software deployed in real operational environments, interacting directly with end users to ensure reliable performance in critical missions.

The role blends software development, Linux administration and networking, with hands-on field work on-site in Herefordshire and at client premises.

Qualifications

• Commercial experience developing production software, ideally Python.
• Solid understanding of Linux operating systems and networking principles.
• Experience diagnosing software, infrastructure or connectivity issues.
• Strong communication skills and the ability to work directly with end users.

Responsibilities

• Deploy and manage software updates across operational systems.
• Configure, maintain and troubleshoot Linux-based platforms.
• Diagnose networking and connectivity issues within secure environments.
• Develop and maintain Python applications, automation tools and supporting software.
• Provide technical support to users operating systems in the field.
• Investigate and resolve software and infrastructure issues under operational conditions.
• Capture user feedback and operational lessons to support ongoing product development and continuous improvement.
• Work closely with multidisciplinary engineering teams to improve system performance, reliability and maintainability.
