Job summary

United Utilities in the UK is seeking a Field Materials Engineer to plan and allocate maintenance activities across UU Cheshire sites in a hybrid setup. You will develop and issue short, medium and long term maintenance plans, liaise with contractors for material quotes and build Bills of Materials to support scheduled work.

You will ensure safety is at the forefront, capture knowledge from senior staff, and drive continuous improvement in planning and scheduling to boost asset reliability.

Qualifications

• Qualified to HNC or NVQ level 3 in Mechanical, Electrical, or Instrumentation engineering.
• Experience in maintenance across water or similar industry.
• Ability to estimate labour hours, material requirements and skills needed.
• Excellent planning skills and ability to work logically and efficiently.
• Knowledge of health and safety processes and procedures.
• Full UK Driving Licence and ability to liaise with contractors and suppliers.

Responsibilities

• Plan and allocate maintenance activities across UU sites in a defined area.
• Develop short, medium and long term maintenance plans for assets.
• Speak with contractors and suppliers to obtain quotes for materials.
• Review quotes, quantify spares and materials, and build bills of materials.
• Liaise with maintenance teams and scheduling to ensure correct specifications.
• Proactively plan asset downtime with minimal disruption to processes.
• Create, maintain and improve the library of maintenance job plans.
• Drive continuous improvement in planning processes and attend planning meetings.
