Job summary

United Utilities is recruiting a Field Survey Engineer to join their Operational Technology team in the North West. The role involves performing site surveys, producing scope documents, and acting as SME across OT fields to support project delivery.

You will manage internal and external stakeholders, ensure compliance and security, and provide reliable project information for asset performance. A driving licence is required and travel around UU sites will be expected.

Qualifications

  • Formal electrical or instrumentation apprenticeship or NVQ level 3 in Instrumentation, Control and Automation subjects or relevant experience
  • Working knowledge of Fieldbus and IP based communication networks and topologies
  • Working knowledge of PLC, SCADA, HMI and Client operating application systems and both current framework and legacy systems
  • Working knowledge of Information Security good practice
  • Working knowledge of interfaces with other disciplines e.g. Electrical, Civil, Hydraulic, Mechanical, Modelling and Process
  • Excellent analytical and communication skills
  • Demonstrable experience in the Water and Wastewater industry
  • Detailed knowledge of telemetry infrastructure and systems
  • Asset Registration process experience
  • Technical understanding of hardware architecture design and connectivity to deliver OT solutions against a backdrop of an IT environment
  • Evidence of working with suppliers of services and equipment in the development of design solutions, standards and specifications
  • Full UK driving licence and willingness to travel around the UU working patch as required

Responsibilities

  • Complete Site Surveys and create Scope Documents for project delivery.
  • Analyse faults and ensure project requirements are correctly specified to ensure correct operation of C&A equipment, thereby optimising the availability of water and wastewater assets
  • Responsible for inputting into the creation of contract documentation (e.g. NEC3's Employers Works Information) or other technical reports and acting as the single point of contact for technical audit throughout the lifecycle and be commercially aware of the impacts of their actions
  • Complete Assurance activities on deliverables from third parties and ensure alignment to company standards
  • Helping projects ensure Delivery to time, cost, carbon and quality drivers
  • Provide reliable, accurate and complete project information for entry into corporate systems to support analysis and improved asset performance
  • Risk management to drive the delivery of opportunities or threat reduction, including adequate escalation of issues outside of your control
  • Being the champion for the project within the business and from time to time representing the business externally
  • Ensure that activities undertaken, and engineering outputs provided are in accordance with Health and Safety Legislation, accepted practice and company policies
  • Work collaboratively with other business areas inline with business interests

Length of Contact: 12 month rolling


Hourly rates: £33.99 PAYE or £43.81 Umbrella


Job purpose:

A key part of the Project Delivery Team and will provide OT Engineering Support to the Project Delivery function whilst acting as a Subject Matter Expert across several technical OT fields


The Project engineer will be required to manage both internal and external stakeholders of the projects they are supporting whilst ensuring solutions are designed with compliance (technical and regulatory), supportability and reliability in mind. The solutions must also be fit for purpose whilst minimising and mitigating the Cyber risk of these solutions.


Main responsibilities:
