Job summary

PHSC plc is seeking a field-based Competent Person to conduct mandatory statutory examinations across a regional portfolio in London and the South. You will ensure legal compliance, manage on-site inspections with autonomy, and advise clients on integrity and safety issues.

The role requires active professional registration (IEng/CEng), a relevant engineering degree, and 5+ years' field experience with COSHH, LOLER, PSSR and PUWER.

Qualifications

• Active registration as IEng or CEng via an engineering council-approved institution.
• HNC, HND, or BEng/MEng degree required.
• 5+ years field engineering experience in industrial plant or heavy machinery.
• Full UK driving licence; willingness to travel/overnight stays.
• Deep knowledge of COSHH, LOLER, PSSR and PUWER regulations.

Responsibilities

• Statutory Thorough Examinations: perform field inspections and audits of industrial plant and equipment.
• Rigorous Reporting & Certification: produce legally binding safety reports and certificates with formal categorisation of findings.
• Field Defect & Risk Escalation: provide on-site safety interventions and report non-compliance to HSE where required.
• Written Schemes of Examination (WSE): review and establish safe inspection frequencies and criteria.
• Territory & Schedule Autonomy: manage daily travel and inspection calendars to meet client needs within the region.
