Job description

Our client has worked within the local education sector, supporting schools and MATs across the region for over 25 years.

Key parts of the role as Managed Service Engineer:

You'll be based out of the main office, but you will work in the field with the end customers (Primary schools mainly in Leeds, Otley, Harrogate, and Selby). Travel is involved within school opening times of 39 weeks, with the remaining 13 weeks allocated for holidays, training, and projects. The client also closes for around 10 days during the Christmas period.

The 13 weeks not spent working in schools are dedicated to training and projects. The normal working week consists of 37.5 hours, with start and finish times within the 39 weeks flexible, typically around 8:00 am to 4:30 pm, allowing for early starts and finishes.

The early start allows staff to see their own staff before school begins and benefits from an early finish in the mid-afternoon. The senior in-house team and help desk are available for guidance during the week. You will be included in meetings with clients for future IT development and installations, with overtime opportunities if desired.

Daily responsibilities as Managed Service Engineer:
  • Maintenance and upkeep of client's Windows servers, Active Directory, user accounts, systems infrastructure, Wi-Fi, and end-user equipment such as PCs, laptops, iPads, software, licensing, and interactive equipment.
  • Monitoring server space and issues.
  • Weekly backup checks.
  • Ensuring AV systems are checked and operational on servers and workstations.
  • Checking internet speed and logging issues.
  • Using Ninja and TeamViewer for remote support on servers and end-user devices.
  • Logging tickets and consulting with senior staff for advice and solutions.
  • Evaluating current IT equipment alongside the school review team.
  • Providing objective advice on IT improvements for the school's business.
  • Planning and coordinating projects, managing timelines, and monitoring progress.
  • Ensuring smooth transition during system upgrades.
  • Keeping management and clients updated on project status.
  • Building strong relationships with clients and being a proactive team member.
Starting Salary:
  • £25,000 depending on skill set, with a company pension scheme.
  • Mileage covered.
