At Baxter, we are deeply connected by our mission. No matter your role at Baxter, your work makes a positive impact on people around the world. You'll feel a sense of purpose throughout the organization, as we know our work improves outcomes for millions of patients.

Baxter's products and therapies are found in almost every hospital worldwide, in clinics and in the home. For over 85 years, we have pioneered significant medical innovations that transform healthcare.

Together, we create a place where we are happy, successful and inspire each other. This is where you can do your best work.

Join us at the intersection of saving and sustaining lives—where your purpose accelerates our mission.

We have an opportunity at Baxter to join us as a Field Engineer in Compounding. This area of the business manufactures life-saving products such as chemotherapy and nutrition. You will conduct, coordinate and manage equipment-related maintenance and improvement activity across UK Compounding sites (Thetford, Stockport, Croydon and Oxford) so that equipment availability, reliability and capability is continuously improved.

You will ensure all equipment is calibrated and maintained in compliance with the requirements of cGMP, FDA, ISO13485 and EHS Legislation.

An average week would be Monday to Friday, 37.5 hours; however, we do require a level of flexibility to accommodate out-of-hours breakdowns and planned maintenance. You will receive overtime/time in lieu for this as arranged with your manager/your preference.

The role is field-based, and therefore the candidate can expect to spend up to 50% of their time traveling to Compounding sites, primarily in the UK, but also with the possibility of European travel. In this role, you will work with multi-functional teams, so we are searching for someone with excellent communication skills and above all, someone with a willingness to learn.

Experience in engineering is essential; however, we appreciate this looks different for every candidate. You might have just finished an engineering apprenticeship and are looking for the next step in your career, or you may already be a Field Engineer looking for a change. We would love to hear from candidates from all backgrounds.

Duties and responsibilities

  • Demonstrate a safety-first approach to every aspect of the role.
  • Lead troubleshooting, fault finding & resolution to the root cause of compounding-related plant and equipment issues.
  • Lead shutdown planning and execution, inclusive of shutdown and start-up activities.
  • Heavy focus on reliability of plant and equipment, working relentlessly to ensure that plant availability & OEE metrics are continuously improved.
  • Deliver best-in-class equipment availability and reliability through reactive, preventative, and predictive maintenance techniques.
  • Plan and direct the installation, testing, operation, maintenance, and repair of all critical equipment within the Compounding Units.
  • Direct and coordinate the engineering activities associated with critical Compounding plant and equipment, managing contractors, service providers, installation engineers, etc.
  • Coordinate and direct engineering projects associated with the Compounding Units so that they are completed on time and within budget.
  • Perform administrative functions, review and write reports, and make decisions on the purchase of parts, equipment, and services.
  • Act as a team member and project manager for the delivery of the Site Project portfolios.
  • Manage external contractors in line with EHS safe systems of work.
  • Review contractors' day sheets to enable accuracy of information, problem resolution, and cost-effectiveness.

Knowledge & Skills

  • A Craft Apprenticeship (& HNC preferred) in Electrical, Mechanical, or Instrumentation Engineering is required.
  • A full UK driving license is required.
  • Good level of experience in maintaining electrical and mechanical plant and equipment.
  • Ambitious, with strong emotional intelligence; this role offers huge scope for professional development.
  • Experience in an engineering/field role.
  • Cleanroom/aseptic manufacturing practical work would be an advantage or an understanding of this area.
  • Strong communication and computer literacy skills.
  • Experience of operating within maintenance and project engineering functions.
  • Knowledge and experience of implementing continuous improvement activities.
