Job description

Field Service Engineer

Summary:

The role is a high-quality, conscientious Technical Services Engineer supporting the Technical Team and contributing to the development of the expanding Service Department. The candidate must be flexible, meticulous in service approach, and possess an in-depth understanding of the service sector.

Essential Functions:

The successful candidate will:

  1. Be a team player, capable of working under pressure to meet demanding multi-discipline targets, with advanced problem-solving skills across multiple vendors, understanding their setup and operation specific to MTS products, and willing to work outside normal hours.
  2. Technical Support - Provide remote support via telephone and support software to diagnose problems, identify user issues, monitor systems, and perform configuration changes.
  3. Field Service - Visit sites for planned preventative maintenance, corrective maintenance, equipment installation, and upgrades.
  4. Spare Parts Management - Maintain in-country spare parts, restock after use, manage stock levels, and conduct stock takes as required.
  5. Refurbishment - Support sub-assembly refurbishment to improve service costs and preventive maintenance outcomes.

Required Knowledge and Skills:

The role requires a highly specialized skill set, including:

  • Electrical/Electronic - Experience with industrial and domestic wiring, reading electrical and electronic schematics from multiple vendors, fault finding to component level.
  • Mechanical - Ability to interpret mechanical drawings, suggest improvements, and handle equipment for installation.
  • Computer & IT Skills - Proficiency with Microsoft Office, understanding databases, PC hardware, networking, and remote support systems.
  • Field Service Processes - Stock control, procurement, technical reporting, and quality procedures.
  • Health & Safety - Conduct risk assessments and propose solutions, with knowledge of relevant legislation.

Qualifications:

  • Higher-level qualification in Electronic/Electrical Engineering
  • Relevant field service experience

Work Conditions:

  • Monday to Friday, with occasional weekend work.
  • Ability to lift assemblies up to 25kg regularly, with assistance for heavier objects.
