Placements24 is seeking an Optical Network Technician to deploy, maintain, and repair fiber optic networks in Randburg. You will handle splicing, testing, and fault repair, ensuring high-speed data transmission for customers.

The role requires hands-on work with OTDRs, meters, and VFLs, plus reading network designs and blueprints. A technical certification and 2+ years' experience are preferred. Safety and reliability are essential in this vibrant telecoms environment.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent; relevant fiber optics or telecommunications certification desirable.
• Minimum 2 years' experience with fiber optic networks.
• Proficiency in splicing, termination and testing techniques.
• Experience with OTDRs, power meters and VFLs.
• Knowledge of fiber types, connectors and industry standards.
• Ability to work independently and follow safety protocols.

Responsibilities

• Install, terminate, and splice fiber optic cables in various environments (underground, aerial, indoor).
• Test and troubleshoot fiber optic networks using specialized equipment.
• Diagnose and repair faults to minimise service disruption.
• Read and interpret fiber designs, schematics and blueprints.
• Perform regular inspections and preventative maintenance on equipment.
• Document all activities accurately.
