Job description
Overview

We're looking for a female Support Worker to provide 1:1 support to a woman in her 50s who lives in her own home. She has autism, a learning disability, and dysphagia, and communicates using a visual schedule rather than words. You'll support her with personal care (including intimate care), medication, and meal preparation in line with SALT guidelines. She enjoys swimming (you'll need to get into the water), gardening, cooking, sensory and art sessions, and trips out, locally, and further afield by train. She has a bus pass and her own car, which has space for a named driver (though driving isn’t essential). She can be anxious with new people, so a calm, consistent approach is key. You'll work alternate weekends with a shift pattern of either long day - sleep in or late - sleep in and an early (7:30-2:30pm). Lone working is involved.

Dimensions UK is a values-driven organisation committed to supporting people with learning disabilities and autism to lead fulfilling, independent lives.

Responsibilities
  • Provide 1:1 support, including personal care (with intimate care) and medication management, following individual care plans and SALT guidelines.
  • Assist with meal preparation and nutrition as part of daily routines.
  • Support participation in activities (swimming, gardening, cooking, sensory and art sessions) and accompany the person on local and longer trips by train.
  • Be comfortable with entering the water for swimming activities when required.
  • Support social engagement while maintaining a calm, consistent approach to reduce anxiety with new people.
  • Work alternating weekends with a shift pattern of long day - sleep in or late - sleep in and an early shift (7:30-2:30pm).
  • Operate as a lone worker when required, ensuring safety and safeguarding at all times.
Qualifications & Skills
  • A genuine passion for supporting people with learning disabilities and autism.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to work effectively as part of a team and independently.
  • Proactive, positive attitude with resilience to manage challenging situations.
  • Willingness to learn and adapt to new approaches and techniques.
  • Enhanced DBS check required (the employer will cover the cost).
  • Eligibility to work in the UK.
