An exciting opportunity has arisen to join an existing team of carers looking after a fun-loving lady who has cerebral palsy.

We are looking to recruit a patient, warm, caring, and reliable Female Support Worker to work with our client, a 39-year-old woman who has cerebral palsy. She is dependent on assistance for all transfers and personal care. She communicates independently and successfully via an electronic speech aid. The client lives in her own home and requires 1-1 care 24 hours per day. Support workers will assist the client to access community activities and complete therapy programmes under the direction of therapists.

Please note: We are recruiting Female Support Workers due to a genuine occupational requirement of the person we support; therefore, this role is exempt from the Equality Act 2010 Part 1 Schedule 9.

What you will be doing:

  • Assist the client to exercise choice and control over their own lives as far as they are able, considering cognitive problems.
  • Liaise with and support the family as required.
  • Assist the client in maintaining adequate hygiene.
  • Support the client to use local amenities such as shops, leisure facilities, and attend community events.
  • Follow the service user plan as documented for the client.
  • Maintain accurate and confidential records.
  • Provide distance administrative support to progress ongoing input, including contacting third parties, arranging appointments, and following up on outstanding actions/tasks.
  • Maintain professional boundaries with the client and their family, adhering to the direction from the case manager as appropriate.

What you will have:

  • An NVQ (or equivalent) in care, and recent training would be an advantage.
  • Some experience caring for people with physical and/or learning disabilities.
  • A positive interest in active rehabilitation and a desire to enable this person to reach her full potential.
  • You will be female (due to the occupational nature of the role; this post is compliant with Paragraph 1, Schedule 9 of the Equality Act 2010 relating to Occupational Requirements).
  • You will be a driver with a full UK driving licence and confident to drive the client’s car.
  • Excellent communication skills, especially with the client, her family, and other professionals.
  • You will have a DBS check on the update service or will complete an enhanced DBS if successful. Initial DBS check paid for by us.
  • Experience managing others and knowledge of organising staff rotas.
  • Current training in areas such as equality, diversity and inclusion, health and safety, control of hazardous substances, fire safety, infection control, food hygiene, manual handling, first aid/CPR, safeguarding vulnerable adults and children, conflict management, and lone working.
