Job summary

Disability North is seeking a patient, reliable PA to support a young girl with autism in Throckley, near Newcastle. This two-afternoon, seven-hour-per-week role involves accompanying her on activities such as visits to trampoline parks, local parks, and shopping trips, with emphasis on promoting independence and communication.

The candidate must have a driving licence and access to a car, as well as experience in care roles.

Qualifications

• Experience in care or support roles with children preferred.
• Ability to communicate using PECS and non-verbal cues.

Responsibilities

• Provide 7 hours per week of direct practical support for a child with autism, two afternoons per week.
• Plan and accompany activities such as visits to trampoline parks, Tim Lamb Centre, Riverside Park and Metro Centre visits with a treat stop.
• Ensure the child’s safety, support independence, and follow care plans.
• Drive to activities using own car; a driving licence and car are essential.

Job description

Reporting to: Direct Payment Employer

Location: Throckley, Newcastle upon Tyne

Hours of work: 7 hours per week (2 weekday afternoons)

Rate of pay: £13.00 per hour

Car owner driver is essential for this role

My daughter enjoys watching her tablet, playing with her dolls, playing games like hide and seek, throwing and catching balls. She is very active and likes to visit parks and playgrounds enjoying the slides, swinging, jumping and climbing. One of her favourite playgrounds is at Hamsterley Forest.

We are looking for a PA to support her two afternoons per week with activities such as going to the trampoline park, Tim Lamb Centre, Riverside Park in Chester Le Street and walking around the Metro Centre with a stop for ice cream

My daughter has autism and is non-verbal but is able to communicate with PECS, a Now and Next board, and gestures. The most important thing is to give her the space and time to do as much as she can to develop her independence.
