Job description

Introduction

I’m a mother & a wife; my youngest is a teen, the children have similar genetic conditions, usually at the milder end of the scale, and living in the PL2 area of Plymouth. I’m looking for Personal Assistant/s who can support me to support my family. Please note we have one small friendly dog.

I’m looking for applicants that match these qualities: caring personality, empathy, organised, good sense of humour, self-motivated, trustworthy, physically fit & patient especially with cognitive symptoms and ideally willing to support with improving management of conditions.

After a probation period, training courses are available, if required, no charge to the Personal Assistant.

Duties:
  • Light cooking and cleaning duties
  • Occasionally prepare and cook meals for family, to support their respite
  • Personal care, at present minor assistance needed such as support with washing hair & more if having a flare-up inc. dressing
  • Support out in the community, this may occasionally include supporting activities with my youngest.
  • Prompting Medication
  • Typing/computer skills, keeping up with emails
  • Support with online food shop
  • Occasional shopping, when unable to get items online.
  • Support making phone calls, organising paperwork, supporting in attending appointments and meetings, using Google Calendar etc.
  • I’m unable to stand for long as exacerbates symptoms, so outdoors would usually require a manual or powered wheelchair which has assistant control when needed
  • Any other reasonable task to allow the service user to live independently

Hours: Average 16 hrs flexible p/w or on job share between 2 or 3 PA’s.

Rate: £11.54 per hr rising to £12.08 after probation period.

Essential Requirements:
  • Enhanced DBS required. Cost met by employer.
  • References from previous employers.
  • Excellent English skills (verbal and written).
  • Legally entitled to work in the U.K.
  • Full/clean driving licence if driving as part of job.
  • Understanding of confidentiality including confidentiality online.
Desired Requirements:
  • Experience in health & social care, NVQ 3 in Health and Social Care or working towards the qualification.
  • If a driver, a Full Clean driving licence, own car is preferred or may consider non-driver if you have access to reliable transport or live in walking distance.
  • Computer Literate, including knowledge of Google drive for documents.
  • Happy to use smartphone apps/tech to improve employer’s care needs/communication.
  • Willing to learn about isometric physiotherapy.
  • Interest/understanding in nutrition, intolerances & allergies due to certain triggers.
  • Experience in neurological or connective tissue conditions.
  • General good health.
  • Enjoys cooking; baking would be a bonus for my youngest who would like to be a baker.
