Hours: Minimum 5 hours per week plus holiday and sickness cover
Rate of Pay: £14.00 per hour
Area: Dumpling Hall, Newcastle
Driver with own vehicle essential
I am a lively, outgoing disabled woman living in Dumpling Hall. I love music, visiting museums, art galleries, and I am a member of the National Trust. I am a Mum and Nana, but don’t see my family often as they live outside Newcastle. Inclusion and holistic support are important to me. I volunteer at the local university as part of interview panels and as a guest speaker on the Occupational Therapy course.
I am looking for someone with a good sense of humour, good communication skills, and a friendly, reliable nature. I need assistance with daily living and personal care. I live in my own bungalow and am accustomed to organizing my support. I am severely visually impaired with mobility difficulties, using a manual wheelchair or motorised scooter outside the home.
The main role of your job as my Personal Assistant will be to support me during social activities such as shopping, meeting family and friends, and attending theatre and gigs. Your primary responsibility will be to assist me when out and about, acting as my sighted guide.
You will work under my direction, meeting my needs and being accountable to me. I prefer my Personal Assistant to be lively, outgoing, friendly, reliable, and flexible with hours. Respect for my privacy and confidentiality is essential. Good general health and physical ability to push my wheelchair and load it into your vehicle are required.
There is a genuine occupational requirement for the holder of this post to be male/female in accordance with the Health and Social Care Act 2008 (Regulated Activities) Regulations 2014 and the Equality Act 2010 Schedule 9 paragraphs 1–4.
