Job description

About the Role

Are you a friendly and social person who enjoys being surrounded by inspiring individuals? Are you looking for that next step in your career or looking for that new challenge and believe that you have the transferable skills to make a positive impact on the lives of young adults and children?

Job Opportunity

Support work isn’t just about making cups of tea and personal care (though we agree—a good cup of tea does go a long way!). At Insignia Healthcare Group, we believe in enhancing lives and empowering individuals with emotional, physical, and complex disabilities to live fulfilling and independent lives.

We are currently looking for a committed and compassionate night support worker to join the care team supporting a young male adult living at home in Costessy Norwich.

He has a number of complex clinical needs, including:

  • Duchenne Muscular Dystrophy (DMD)
  • Neuromuscular Scoliosis
  • Respiratory support needs, including Non-Invasive Ventilation (NIV)

Your role will involve supporting with eating and drinking, personal care, and respiratory management, as well as contributing to his sense of independence and wellbeing through social interaction and community activities. He enjoys trips into the community; finding local coffee shops to enjoy a hot chocolate, going bowling and exploring the local area, completing Lego builds and playing board games with his team.

In his own words this is what he values most from his team:

What is important to me in my support team

"I'm looking for caring, patient and reliable support workers who can communicate clearly and take the time to understand me, ensuring we can communicate effectively together. Having a positive outlook is important, as there are times when I may feel low, and I appreciate someone who can offer reassurance, focus on the positives and remain encouraging without becoming flustered."

I need people who can stay calm under pressure, particularly if things don't go to plan. For example, moving and handling can sometimes be challenging, and if you remain calm and confident, it helps me to feel safe and relaxed too.

Experience supporting people with scoliosis or complex physical needs would be beneficial. My body is fragile, so it is essential that you are gentle, attentive and confident when carrying out moving and handling tasks.

Finally, I value good timekeeping and consistency. I have a daily routine that is important to me, including set times for meals and rest. While I understand that unexpected situations can arise, I appreciate support workers who respect my routine and do their best to help me maintain it.

Key Details:

  • Shifts: 12-hour waking night shifts, 7:00 PM to 7:00 AM
  • Schedule: Fixed rota pattern which Includes alternate weekend working
  • Location: Costessy (Norwich)

All positions can be given as a contracted fixed rota position or on a casual basis if preferred.

*There is a genuine occupational requirement for the holder of this post to be female in accordance with the Health and Social Care Act 2008 (Regulated Activities) Regulations 2014 and Equality Act 2010.

*Please note we are unable to offer sponsorship for this position.
