TeacherActive is recruiting a Female SEND Learning Support Assistant for a specialist school in Benfleet, Essex. The role focuses on providing dedicated 1:1 and small-group support to pupils with complex SEND needs, including SLD, PMLD and autism, with emphasis on safety, inclusion and personal development.

The ideal candidate will have patient, nurturing communication, and experience in specialist settings, along with an enhanced DBS update service or willingness to obtain one.

Qualificações

Responsabilidades

About the Role

TeacherActive is currently recruiting a

dedicated, compassionate and experienced Learning Support Assistant (LSA) to join a specialist SEND school in Benfleet, Essex.

The school supports children and young people with a wide range of complex learning needs, including

Severe Learning Difficulties (SLD), Profound and Multiple Learning Difficulties (PMLD), Autism (ASC) and physical disabilities.

We are looking for someone who is patient, nurturing and confident in providing individualised support to pupils who require additional assistance throughout their school day.

The role involves supporting pupils with their education, emotional wellbeing and personal development, helping them feel safe, included and confident in their learning environment.

Key Responsibilities

Provide

1:1 and small-group support to pupils with complex SEND needs.

Support pupils with

SLD, PMLD, autism and additional learning difficulties.

Assist with

personal care, including toileting, changing and hygiene routines, while maintaining dignity and safeguarding standards.

Support pupils with physical disabilities and mobility needs.

Help pupils develop communication skills using visual aids, PECS, Makaton or other alternative communication methods where appropriate.

Manage challenging behaviour using positive behaviour support and de-escalation strategies.

Work closely with teachers, therapists and other support staff to implement individual learning plans.

Encourage pupils to develop independence, confidence and essential life skills.

Create a safe, positive and inclusive learning environment.

The Ideal Candidate

Previous experience working with children or young people with

SEND, SLD, PMLD or autism.

Comfortable providing personal care and supporting pupils with complex physical needs.

A calm, caring and patient approach.

Strong communication and behaviour management skills.

Experience in specialist schools, care settings or residential support would be advantageous.

A genuine passion for helping children with additional needs reach their full potential.

An enhanced DBS on the Update Service, or willingness to obtain one.
