Brief: Reliable, trustworthy, and compassionate home carer required to support a lady in North Walsham (NR28). Support will vary but will generally consist of supporting the lady in her home overnight. You will have the opportunity to sleep, however, it is likely you will be woken a few times during the shift. There is also the possibility of cover other members of the team for holiday and sickness. Some of the daily tasks would consist of support with domestic duties, assisting the client with leaving the house and visiting shops and lunch trips. Additional duties will include supporting the cared for with assisting her out of bed in the morning and into bed in the evening, as well as supporting with hospital and GP appointments. The successful candidate will be directly employed by the cared for with support from Suffolk Independent Living. 12 hours per week are available. Additional hours are available for cover or sickness when they arise within the team of carers.

About me: I am an independent 53-year-old lady living in my home who has been medically challenged in recent years. I require support with various aspects of my life as a wheelchair user with complex medical conditions (I have multiple airway diseases, pancreatic disease, T6 paraplegia, diabetes type 3c, Tracheabronchomalacia severe and more health concerns). I require an additional Home Carer to support me in my home to live as independent as I can, joining my current team. Job duties

This list is a general overview of the expected duties within this position. This list is not exhaustive and may change from time to time.

• Support with medication.
• Support the client with her complex medical conditions. All necessary training for this will be provided.
• Life support / medical machinery is necessary for my standard of living. You will be supported to understand and interact with this when necessary. All necessary training for this will be provided.
• Assisting with personal care, such as aiding the cared for in the shower, and dressing. Also with catheter care.
• Assistance with food and drink at lunch and tea.
• Supporting the employer through hospital and GP appointments and in visits to the town for trips out for the day.
• Assistance with general domestic duties such as cleaning and laundry.
• The cared for has pet cats, so the successful candidate must be comfortable with them and also feed them when necessary.
• General companionship.
• Candidates should be confident and capable of prompting the cared for to support their own wellbeing when necessary, such as using the required machinery.

Essential qualities and criteria

• Female required due to personal care* Schedule 9, P1 of the Equality Act 2010 applies
• Respectful, compassionate and considerate nature.
• Excellent communication.
• Capable to perform under pressure and stay calm.
• First-aid experience.
• Experience in a care-setting of a similar nature.
• Capable of working independently and well with others.
• Able to act under pressure in a medical emergency.

Desirable qualities and criteria

• Confident to talk on my behalf in appointments when necessary and suitable.
• Resourceful, capable, and able to take the initiative.
• The client owns their own wheelchair accessible car which is insured fully comprehensive for those over 21 years old. Those with less than 6 points are ideal, but all candidates will be considered on their own merit.

Summary terms, conditions, and times of work

This is a fixed term contract of 6 months, there may be the opportunity to be offered a permanent position but this is not guaranteed.

12 night hours per week are available for the candidate on a Thursday night.

Flexible start time between 7 pm and 8 pm.

The pay rate for this position is £13.60 per hour.

Annual leave: 5.6 weeks of annual leave, pro-rata.

Background check: A satisfactory Enhanced with Barred List(s) Disclosure and Barring Service check is required for this position.
