The Science and Technology Facilities Council (STFC), the UK funding body for particle and nuclear physics, has recently opened its 2025 Ernest Rutherford Fellowship call. This is a 5-year fellowship which can be hosted at a UK university or research institute. However it is demand-limited and universities have a quota for the number of applications we can support. At the University of Derby we are able to support one application. We would like to collect Expressions of Interest (EoI) from candidates interested in this opportunity. In order to be guaranteed consideration please submit your EoI on or before 3 July 2025.
UoD is a member of the ALICE Collaboration, and is funded as part of the STFC's nuclear physics programme. We would anticipate applicants to be applying in this area. Please contact Dr Lee Barnby (l.barnby@derby.ac.uk) for the EoI form and for further information.
The selected candidate would then develop a full proposal in conjunction with the UoD for submission to STFC by the 1 October deadline. The scheme is open to those without a permanent academic position. There are not strict limits on the length of post-PhD experience but analysis of recent rounds suggest that those with 4-9 years of postdoctoral experience have the highest success rate.
