Job summary

Manchester Metropolitan University is seeking a current MMU student to join the CollabXAI project as an AI engineering and research support role. The position focuses on design, implementation and evaluation of collaborative AI and trust-validation components of a TRL4 platform enabling SMEs to train models without sharing their data, with an initial IIDS use case.

The role is 16 hours per week, hybrid in Manchester, with dates 5 October 2026 to 12 March 2027, and requires strong Python and ML

Qualifications

• Must be a current MMU student.
• Strong programming skills in Python.
• Experience with ML libraries such as scikit-learn, PyTorch or TensorFlow.
• Ability to plan, execute and document AI experiments.

Responsibilities

• Contribute to design, development and evaluation of CollabXAI AI components.
• Develop and evaluate the IIDS use case and explore additional use cases.
• Prepare and analyze data for model development and evaluation.
• Implement local ML training workflows for distributed SME environments.
• Document methods, results and code to ensure reproducibility.
• Collaborate with the Software Engineer to integrate AI components into the platform.
• Record and report findings for project stakeholders.
